If you are in Australia and Your Visa has Expired

If you would like to stay longer in Australia as a visitor, and you do not hold a substantive visa, you must apply within 28 days of your previous substantive visa ceasing. The Department of Home Affairs will assess if; the reasons you do not hold a substantive visa are beyond your control, and there are compelling reasons to grant you a visa. You will not be granted this visa if your current visa is, or last visa was, a Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (Subclass 403) in the Domestic worker (Diplomatic or Consular) Stream. Unless there are exceptional circumstances that allow grant of the visa, you will not be granted this visa if you hold a Visitor visa, Work and Holiday visa, Working Holiday visa or bridging visa, and granting you a further Tourist visa would result in you staying in Australia for more than 12 consecutive months.
